A call for better awareness for men's health

According to Professor Alan White, of Leeds Metropolitan University and chairman of the Men's Health Forum, there needs to be more study on why some diseases occur more in men. Apparently, men aren't going to the doctor for preventive health measures. Masculinity and social pressures may have something to do with why some men will let a wound fester until their appendage is about to fall off. Men have to give the appearance of strength even in the face of irrationality. My own father has told me and my sister, "if something happens to me where I need surgery don't let them operate on me just get my suit ready and put me in the ground when it is all over."
I think fear and lack of awareness are some of the reasons too, why some men refuse to seek preventive health measures.
"when a health team set up clinics in work places and pubs, and staged events at
football grounds men asked for information"
Men are almost becoming like the family pet dog when they get sick or are moving slow "just send them outside to go eat some grass".

I'm glad you brought this issue to the spotlight on your blog. I just went to the doctor and realized that I hadn't gone to any doctor in 2 years. I guess men feel so powerless in the doctor's office. It's such a vulnerable feeling when you're sitting there on that tissue paper waiting for the doctor to come into the room so you can tell him or her your most personal of problems.
